July 13, 2007 – The Struggle With Temptation

No matter what form temptation takes in our life, Satan uses a fairly standard process to get us off track. And it’s as effective as ever. 

Facing temptation, instincts run wild and becoming the men God wants us to be...


First, from the Big Book and how the application of Step Six changes the way we think. It is the beginning of the walk over from the "Just Don't Drink" door to the "Rocketed" door.


"...we then look at Step Six. We have emphasized willingness as being indispensable. Are we now ready to let God remove from us all the things which we have admitted are objectionable? Can He now take them all-every one? (There He is again!) If we still cling to something we will not let go, we ask God to help us be willing."

The Old Violin

'Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer,
Thought it scarcely worth his while,
To waste much time on the old violin,
But he held it up with a smile.

"What am I bidden, good folks?" he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?
A dollar, a dollar, now two, only two,
Two dollars, and who'll make it three?

"Three dollars once, three dollars twice,
Going for three..." but no,
From the room far back, a grey haired man,
Came forward and picked up the bow.

Then wiping the dust from the old violin,
and tightening up all the strings,
